COVID-19 Testing for Grades 7-12 Starts Next Tuesday & Weekly Boost

Dear North Colonie Families,

As we enter a new month, I was encouraged to see the sun shining yesterday with slightly milder temperatures. Hopefully we don’t truly have six more weeks of winter and nicer weather is on the horizon. As we close out another week, I have some updates for you to review:

Grades 7-12 COVID-19 testing

As a reminder, COVID-19 testing for selected students and staff in grades 7-12 will take place during the school day on Tuesday, Feb. 9 and Wednesday, Feb. 10.

As a reminder, only those children whose families had previously given consent will be selected. If your child is one who may be tested, you will receive an email 48 hours in advance from his/her school principal with more details and information about what the process will look like.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s school principal.

Weekly Boost

  • SHS junior Avi Bagchi was recently named the recipient of two Scholastic Writing Awards! Avi won a gold key for his critical essay titled “World History: Knowledge in Motion” advancing his essay to the national competition in New York City. Avi won a silver key for a second essay submission titled “Civil Discourse in Times of Crisis.” Learn more about the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Congratulations, Avi!
  • SHS seniors Izzy Cowan and Eva Hymes will participate in the Poetry Out Loud marathon Feb. 13 and 14. The marathon will consist of classic and contemporary poetry performed by high school students across New York State. Good luck, Izzy and Eva!

As always, thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe. Please continue to wear a mask, avoid social gatherings with those outside of your household, and social distance.

Sincerely,

D. Joseph Corr
Superintendent of Schools
