2111, Board Members Authority

The Board of Education shall have the powers and duties as stated in the Education Law and other applicable New York State Law, and it shall consist of nine (9) Members nominated and elected by the qualified voters (see Policy 2120.2) of the district. Election of Board Members will be from the district at large for specific vacancies on said Board and will be held at the annual budget vote.

Board Members have the authority of Board office only when they are officially in session and are acting collectively as a Board, or where the Board takes official action designating an individual member as the representative of the Board for a particular purpose.

If a Board Member is requested to take individual action on behalf of the Board, such as conduct a building inspection or interview existing staff, the Board Member must obtain permission from the entire Board through official Board action.
