Shaker Students Travel to Germany as Part of Exchange Program

In February, a group of 19 German students from Shaker High School traveled with their German teacher, Christine Connor, and administrative chaperone, Robert Pollaro, to Germany for the second part of the Shaker-Ludwigsgymnasium Exchange. SHS families hosted their exchange partners for two weeks in the fall of 2023.

During the one-week stay with their host partners in Saabruecken, they were completely immersed in the culture and language, experiencing daily life in a German family and attending a German school. The group also traveled to the south of Germany for four days. They explored Munich extensively with guided city tours and visited the biggest technical museum in the world, the Nymphenburg Palace, the Olympic Park and the BMW World. Outside of Munich, the group toured the Dachau Concentration Camp and took a half-day trip to Schloss Neuschwanstein.

This trip not only improved their proficiency in German, but also taught them about German and World history and opened their eyes to different cultures and many new perspectives.
