About Boght Hills Elementary

Welcome to Boght Hills – Home of the Colts!

At Boght Hills, our school mantra “One kind word can change someone’s entire day and you have the power to make our school great!” has encouraged all stakeholders (faculty, staff, students & families) who pass through our doors to recognize their ability to positively contribute to our school community. Together, the Boght Hills community has intentionally worked to cultivate a sense of belonging and a safe learning environment where all individuals feel welcomed and affirmed.

This year we introduced The Golden Horseshoe. Each month individuals who exemplified our virtue of the month (Respect, Gratitude, Courage, Perseverance & Integrity) were recognized and celebrated. After learning about a virtue, students and adults who went above and beyond to put the virtue into practice were awarded “The Golden Horseshoe.” Their efforts were celebrated across our school community. In keeping with our school mascot, The Colt, the Golden Horseshoe was a fun and engaging way to introduce, model and practice virtues that help make Boght Hills great!

School Hours

Our doors open at 9 a.m. for students who arrive by bus. At that time, students may go to the cafeteria for breakfast or report to their classrooms to begin the day. There is no supervision in school before 9 a.m. for those who are not directly part of the Colonie Youth Center’s Before/After School Program. Therefore, it is important that those who arrive by car plan to arrive no earlier than 9 a.m.

If a student arrives to school after the official arrival period after 9:15 a.m., a parent or guardian will need to walk the student into school and report to the main office.

At the end of the school day, dismissal by bus and parent pick-up begins at 3:40 p.m.

Please do not send your child to school if he/she has the following:

  • diarrhea or has been vomiting during the night or early that morning. They must be symptom free for 24 hours.
  • body rash with or without itching and with or without fever

  • a bad cold with a very runny nose and/or bad cough

If your child has been diagnosed with a communicable disease for example, strep throat, pink eye, pneumonia, head lice etc, please notify the school. Students are not allowed to return to school for 24 hours for diseases that require antibiotic treatment.

Medication

Any medication, including over the counter medication, must have an order written by a licensed provider, delivered to the school by the parent in the original container, and must have a parent note granting permission for the school nurse to administer the medication.

Please also remember to have your student drop off cough drops to the health office with a parent note.

New Students

All new students must submit a copy of a recent physical done by a New York State healthcare provider. There is a change in the required grades levels. Annual physicals are required for all new, K, 1st, 3rd and 5th graders.  A copy of dental certificate is also recommended.
