8410.2, Transportation of Elementary Students to/from Other than Home Address

Transportation of elementary students to/from other than the student’s home address may only be authorized under the following conditions:

Regular Basis – Applications for such transportation on a regular basis shall be submitted in writing to the Transportation Director by the parent/guardian on forms prescribed by the districtThe deadline for submission of applications is the first day of April each year for those people residing in the district on that date. Parents/guardians moving into the district after that date shall submit applications within thirty days after establishing residence. The transportation request must be to/from the same address every day of the week.

Such transportation, if approved, shall not become effective until confirmation is provided by the Transportation Office to the parent/guardian.

Requests for discontinuance of such transportation must be in writing from the parent/guardian to the Transportation Director.

Requests for permanent change of transportation to a child care location must be submitted in writing on the prescribed form to the Transportation Director at least ten (10) calendar days prior to the desired service date. Service changes are dependent upon available bus capacity and time constraints on the bus routes for the school attended. Changes shall not be effective until confirmation is provided by the Transportation Office to the parent/guardian.

Occasional Basis – Such requests made on an occasional basis for an elementary student, (e.g., student visiting with a friend after school, scout meetings or similar events,) shall be in writing from the parent/guardian, to the school Principal. The Principal or designee, in consultation with the Transportation Office, may authorize the request if there will be an available seat on the bus that day. The parent/guardian will be notified by the school if there is no available seat on the bus. Prior approval from the Transportation Office, must be obtained for groups of students not assigned to the bus.

The district reserves the right to revoke a student’s privilege to ride buses other than his/her regularly assigned bus.
