7500, Naming School Facilities

The Board of Education has the sole authority to name schools, buildings and other facilities in the North Colonie Central School District. Entire buildings and athletic fields may be named for geographic location or function. As of the 2016 amendment to this policy, buildings and fields may not be named for individuals.

In lieu of naming facilities, the Board encourages other appropriate means of honoring individuals. This recognition may be in the form of a plaque, a garden memorial, charitable contributions, scholarships, events, et.al. In all cases, requests for memorials must be submitted to the Board of Education for authorization and approval. Factors such as cost to the District for installation and maintenance, the size of the memorial and its placement will be considered.
