A group of 63 students from Shaker High School recently spent the day in training to become student ambassadors for the Sources of Strength program. Sources of Strength is a fun and positive program where students work together to spread hope, help, and strength throughout our school. The program, which was established through the University of Rochester, aims to help everyone know that they have people and things in their life that make them strong—even when things get tough. Students participating in this cohort were nominated to become ambassadors because they were identified as leaders and someone who can make a difference.
For the training, students worked with each other and some trusted adults to learn about the different Sources of Strength—like family, friends, healthy activities, generosity, and more. The training encouraged students to create fun projects (like posters, videos, or events) that share messages of hope and support with the school, all in an effort to help build a school where everyone feels connected and cared for. The goal of Sources of Strength is to show that it is okay to ask for help and that there are always people and strengths in our lives that can help us get through hard times. Students will get together and run different campaigns throughout the school year to accomplish this goal and bring students in to focus on strengths.
Thank you to our 63 new student ambassadors who spent the day learning, supporting their peers, and showing us just what it means to be a Bison!
