Updates from Gov. Cuomo; future PAC meetings; upcoming survey

Dear Families,

Today, the Governor announced that based on the metrics he had previously outlined, all school districts in New York state are authorized to open. Governor Cuomo also stated that his office will continue to monitor the infection rate between now and September and if there is a spike or a concerning metric, he will reevaluate as necessary.

In the meantime, the Governor urged districts to speak with families about their reopening plans. Our Parents’ Advisory Council has been meeting frequently since June 4 and you can find those meeting videos and presentations here.

We invite you to join us for additional presentations of our plan which will be offered at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, Tuesday, Aug. 18 and Thursday, Aug. 20. We will post a link to the livestream of those meetings on our website the morning of the presentation. If your question is not featured on our FAQ page, please submit your question on this Google Form.

As part of our plan, we will have a remote option for parents who would like to select that option for their children. In order for parents to make the most informed decision possible, we will be surveying our families immediately after the next presentation on Aug. 13. On the morning of Aug. 14, we will send out an electronic survey regarding schooling options, transportation needs, and internet connectivity. Families will have through Aug. 24 to return the survey to us so that we can plan for transportation, class assignments and accommodations for families who do not have access to WiFi.

We know that the uncertainty surrounding schooling is stressful. We will continue to work to ensure that all of our plans are as safe and educationally sound as possible.

Sincerely,

D. Joseph Corr
Superintendent of Schools
