North Colonie Kids Care: Cathleen (Cat) Mahoney, a senior at Shaker High School was recognized this month. Cat completed the New York City marathon earlier this month running for Best Buddies and in honor ofher friend, Hank Masson. Cat and Hank have been classmates since elementary school and she talked about her friendship with Hank through the Best Buddies program. Hank was at the meeting in support of Cat.

Michael Giso from Turner Construction gave a progress update on the construction at the future Shaker Middle School and the Shaker High School baseball and softball fields. Bids for Phases 3 and 4 Projects at Shaker High School, Forts Ferry, Latham Ridge and Loudonville will be due in December.

Nardolillo offered a motion, seconded by Von Dell to approve the following recommendations, special appointments and contracts, as recommended by the Director of Pupil Services.

  • Recommendations regarding Placement/Classification of Students as reviewed by the District Committee on Preschool Special Education for the 2019-2020 school year and recommendations regarding Placement/Classification of Students as reviewed by the District Committee on Special Education for the 2019-2020 school year.

  • Recommendation to approve the consulting agreement with Eden II Programs to provide an independent evaluation.

  • Recommendation to approve the agreement with Lyndon Cudlitz: Consulting, Education and Training, to provide an evening program for parents in January 2020.

Superintendent Corr repo1ted to the Board of Education on enrollment of 5,896 students as of October 25, 2019. Since September elementary enrollment has decreased by one student, Shaker Junior High’s enrollment has also decreased by one student; and Shaker High School’s enrollment has seen an increase by one student. Overall, enrollment is down one student from Septetnber’s total of 5,897.

Each month the Board recognizes those students whose contributions or achievements are outstanding, employees who go beyond the call of duty, and community members whose generosity is greatly appreciated. This month, we are pleased to recognize:

    • District faculty for supporting Southgate Elementary during the absence of their special education staff for a conference.
      • Southgate Elementary noon aides for responding and assisting students during an unplanned fire alarm activation.
    • Shaker High School custodial staff for all that they do on a daily basis

    • Shaker High School students selected to perform with the NYSSMA Area All-State Music Festival on November 15-16.
  • Other
    • Reverend Geoffrey Burkeof Our Lady of the Assumption Church for allowing the high school to use the church’s parking lot for the Back to School Night program
