REGENTS EXAM AND END OF THE YEAR SCHEDULE
The end of the year calendar is largely influenced by the New York State Regents Examination schedule and the state rules regarding the required 180 days of instruction. Typically in North Colonie, per New York State regulation, Regents exam days and Regents Rating day are counted toward 180 days of instruction for grades 9-12. BUDGET VOTE & BOARD OF EDUCATION
On Tuesday, May 17, North Colonie residents approved the district’s $134.9 million budget for 2022-23 by a tally of 2,038 yes votes to 676 no votes. In the Board of Education election, Mary Alber was selected for a five-year term and replaces the open seat of Paula D’Orazio.
APRIL NORTH COLONIE KIDS CARE
Mackenzie Hunter and Olivia LaBarge, Shaker High School ninth graders, were recognized on as the April 2022 North Colonie Kids Care recipients. They were selected for a website they created for students and adults to help ease the transition to a new building as the junior high evolved to Shaker Middle School. Learn more here.
NC STUDENTS HEAD TO KARATE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior Morgan McGlynn, sophomore Daniel McGlynn and middle school student Lucas Zhang have been in competition karate for six years under the training of Shihan Tony Butler of Rensselaer and founder of Albany County Traditional Karate Do Organization. Read more.
SHS STUDENTS SHINE IN 2022 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION
Earlier this week Congressman Paul D. Tonko announced the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition in his district, NY-20. The winning artwork was chosen from among 24 student submissions representing nine high schools across the congressional district. Congratulations to Shaker High Schools Students Annabelle Vasquez (Best in Show) and Chaehyeon “Lucy” Lee (Runner up). Check out the story from ABC ‘s News 10.
