Mark Your Calendars For a School Day, Alumni HOF & Weekly Boost

Dear North Colonie Families,

It was great having our students back in the buildings after the February recess. I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break. As we head into the weekend, I have a few updates to share with you:

School is in session March 19

After our district calendars were printed and mailed home, the district calendar was amended to reflect a later start date this past September. As a result, Friday, March 19 is not a Superintendent’s Conference Day and will be a normal day of school for all students.

Nominate Shaker’s Finest by March 29

Recommendations are being accepted for the 2021 Shaker High School Alumni Hall of Fame. Shaker has many outstanding alumni whose lives bring credit to the North Colonie Central School District. Inductees into the Hall of Fame are role models who can inspire our students to continue the tradition of excellence. If you know someone who would be a great candidate for the Hall of Fame, please fill out this nomination form.

Weekly Boost

  • A play written by Maya TerryStein was selected to be produced by the Capital Repertory Theatre. The Shaker senior was inspired to write about the tensions, anxieties, and dreams of young immigrants, we are inspired by her depth and creativity. Please read more about Maya’s remarkable experience as a playwright.
  • A great production that will leave you smiling — SHS senior Sophie Dvorak released a new video to spread the joy of music with seniors at supportive living communities during the pandemic.
  • Congratulations Shaker Speech and Debate students for placing first or second in every event at a recent Shenendehowa tournament. Here are the results.
  • Our athlete of the week is varsity girls basketball player KJ Gordon. KJ recently scored 11 points, had 3 assists and 2 steals against Colonie. Against Bethlehem, KJ scored 17 points and had 3 steals.

As always, thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe. Please continue to wear a mask, avoid social gatherings with those outside of your household, and social distance.

Sincerely,

D. Joseph Corr
Superintendent of Schools
