Library Media Center

A Message From The Librarian

Access the Latham Ridge Library catalog. Students will be able to see what’s available in the library and see any information related to the library on this site. Students will continue to reserve books when they come for their regularly scheduled library class.

Open Library occurs on Days 1, 3 and 5 from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Your child can exchange books at this time with his/her teacher’s permission.

We would also like to encourage your children to read and return their books on time. To prevent damaged books, please make sure food or drink products are not with the library books in the student’s book bag. Have a great school year and thank you for your support.

Library Resources

Latham Ridge Library Media Center is open to students for book return and selection each morning from bus arrival time to the start of the school day. Students come to the library each week with their class for a variety of learning activities and book exchange.

Literature

Students are exposed to a variety of literature:

  • Authors and illustrators
  • Award-winning books
  • Multicultural literature
  • Literary genres

Research

The research objective is for students to become competent in the research process by using available and appropriate materials. While students in the primary grades may begin learning to research, all students in grades four, five and six are involved in a formal project. The projects are tied to the science or social studies curriculum for each grade.

During the research process students:

  • Locate and select resources
  • Evaluate sources and information
  • Extract relevant information from sources
  • Cite sources

Computer Literacy

Computer literacy is part of the library curriculum in grades four through six. Students are presented with information about:

  • Internet use and evaluating software
  • Internet safety
  • Ethical issues including copyright and plagiarism
  • Computer history

Use of Library

Students will learn library skills appropriate to each grade level, including searching for library materials on the computerized library catalog, and arrangement and location of library materials.
