District statement on social media threat

This morning, Thursday, March 5, Shaker High School administrators were notified of a threatening statement made last night. The threat was made by a student from another district. One of our students shared the threat on social media. Administrators immediately reported the threat to the district’s School Resource Officer, who worked with local police departments to investigate. It was determined that the threat was not intended for the North Colonie Central School District, and that it originated from another school district in the area.

The student, who is not enrolled in the North Colonie Central School District, was taken into custody last night and police determined the threat was not credible.

Safety is paramount in our district. If at any time safety is potentially threatened, we take it very seriously and a full investigation will be conducted. The district works collaboratively with law enforcement in any instance where student safety might be compromised.

We appreciate the student who brought this to our attention so that we could take proactive measures to ensure our school’s safety. As always, if your child has questions or concerns, they should contact a school counselor or administrator. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact principal Richard Murphy at the high school main office at 518-785-5511.
