4316, Alternative Programs for Physical Education Credit

A student may receive physical education credit for participation in an extra-class activity under the following conditions:

I. Extra Class Activities in Lieu of Physical Education Requirements

  1. Eligible students must secure the application form for the extra-class activity exemption program from the program coordinator.
  2. The form will be signed by the student, the parent, and the sponsor of the extra-class activity
  3. The completed form will be forwarded to the Director of Physical Education at least wo weeks prior to the anticipated exemption period, for final approval or disapproval.
  4. The student, the sponsor of the extra-class activity and the program coordinator will receive notification of approval or disapproval. The Director of Physical Education is responsible for the distribution of the extra-class activity approval form to be the appropriate school personnel.
  5. For the quarter which the student is exempted he or she shall have his or her report card marked appropriately.

II. Off-Campus Alternative Program in Lieu of Physical Education Requirement

  1. A student may receive physical education credit for participation in an approved off- campus alternative program under the following conditions:
  2. The program coordinator will explain the Off-Campus Alternative Program to the student and discuss the obligations that the student must assume to enroll in the program. These obligations include regular attendance, successful completion of all course requirements, and parental permission.
  3. Eligible students must secure the application form from the program coordinator.
  4. The student and the program coordinator will discuss the application to see that it meets the criteria established by the North Colonie School District. If in agreement, the student, the parent, and the program coordinator sign the application. Conflicting judgements at this point will be discussed with the Director of Physical Education.
  5. Completed applications will be forwarded to the Director of Physical Education at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the school grading period. The Director is delegated the authority to approve or disapprove the application for Off-Campus Alternative Instruction.
  6. The student and the program coordinator will receive notification of approval or disapproval. The Director of Physical Education is responsible for the distribution of the Off-Campus Alternative approval form to the appropriate school personnel.

III. Special Programs for Physical Education

Students who are unable to fulfill their physical education requirement within the regular high school schedule may apply to the Director of Physical Education for a special program. If deemed appropriate by the Director of Physical Education and the high school principal, the special program process will be followed.
