2270, School Attorneys

School District Attorney

The Board of Education, at its annual reorganization meeting, shall act to appoint an attorney or attorneys, by majority vote, for a term of one (1) year, or until a successor is appointed.

The selection of legal counsel will be carried out in accordance with state law and regulation.

Duties

A Board appointed School District attorney shall serve as the chief legal advisor to the Board of Education; shall represent the Board of Education in all legal matters, administrative hearings, student and employee disciplinary proceedings, litigation (except where the School District is represented by insurance company attorneys or other Board approved attorneys) arbitrations, contract negotiations, bond issuance, special education, construction and other contracts or other related duties as agreed upon.

Compensation

The terms of compensation shall be agreed upon annually by the Board of Education and the attorney.
