Matthew (Matt) Stein has been promoted from Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources to the position of Deputy Superintendent for the North Colonie Central School District. In this role, Mr. Stein will continue to not only work in Human Resources, but also take on additional projects, initiatives, and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent.

Mr. Stein has held a variety of roles during his nine year tenure with North Colonie and has proven himself to be a thoughtful leader, who is committed to supporting our district and staff. Mr. Stein began at the district in July 2017 as the Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics. In this role, Mr. Stein worked to reinvent our physical education program across the district. Working with Dave Stadtlander and the physical education department, the team introduced performance fitness to the school and transformed all of our physical gyms to places that serve all students, with an eye toward lifelong fitness. As Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics, Mr. Stein helped to foster a culture of physical well-being and academic excellence that continues with the athletics program to this day.  

In June 2023, Mr. Stein was promoted to the role of Communications and Community Engagement Director, building the Communications Department from the ground up. Mr. Stein led the department in streamlining communications between the district and the community, allowing North Colonie to better deliver news and essential updates. Furthering our community partnerships, Mr. Stein relaunched the Continuing Education program, once again providing the highly sought after program to our community. During his time with the department, he also led the communications team to win four National School Public Relations Association Awards. His work with the Communications Department allowed our district to grow, not only giving us a platform and resources to share all of the good that happens within our district and community, but also to better serve our community.

Following his success in the Communications Department, Mr. Stein was promoted to the role of Assistant Director of Human Resources in February 2025. In this role, he has updated and streamlined the structure of the Human Resources Department and has been instrumental in many of the changes we have seen within this department and across the district, including improving recruitment and retention, creating efficiencies to benefit our district, improving the hiring process, and more. I cannot say enough about the positive changes that have come out of the work Mr. Stein has done in Human Resources, as well as Communications and Health, Physical Education, and Athletics. 

Prior to his time with North Colonie, Mr. Stein has had a proven track record of success and strong leadership. Mr. Stein worked his way up through the ranks, starting his career as a physical education teacher, moving on to become a High School Physical Education Coordinator and Physical Education and Athletics Administrative intern, along with many coaching positions. This versatility has served him well throughout his career and will continue to do so as he steps into the role of Deputy Superintendent.
