Kids Care Recipients

A pair of Shaker Middle School eighth graders, Kavon Bradley and Shae Harrison, were recognized at September Board of Education meeting as the September North Colonie Kids Care recipients. Kavon and Shae are being honored for their quick thinking and assistance during an emergency on a bus late last school year.

This past May, one of their fellow classmates had a medical emergency while riding the bus home from school. Shae took charge without being asked and timed the event, as this was critical information to keep track of. Kavon stepped up as well, helping the adults on the bus radio back to the bus garage and assisting EMS by opening the door so they could get on the bus to help the student in distress. Like Shae, Kavon understood the severity of the situation and showed great concern for the wellbeing of his peer, even after the emergency.

Mrs. Cosgrove says, “Kavon is truly the kindest student. He helps out in special education classes and is a great peer model for others.”

Because of Kavon and Shae’s quick thinking and assistance, the bus driver, bus aide and EMS workers were all able to assist this student to the best of their abilities. We honor Shae and Kavon for their bravery and compassion in what was an extremely scary situation. Thank you for your efforts. Your teachers, administrators and fellow students are incredibly proud and grateful to you. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!
