In October, Shaker Key Club hosted “Around the Block for Equinox,” a virtual 5k fundraising event. Since 1977, Shaker Key Club members have loyally volunteered at Equinox’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner meal preparation event, where they’ve helped pack thousands of meals and write cards for local families/residents in need.
Through the virtual 5k, donors and participants raised $786.30. The money will be donated to Equinox, and they will be purchasing meals from local restaurants. Each meal averages around $7.50, which means the club’s contributions will provide meals for 104 Capital Region residents.
“Despite the changes and challenges brought about by the current pandemic, our spirits were not diminished in the slightest and we still put in all of our efforts to get the Thanksgiving meals to those families in need,” Key Club Co-President Sienna Dunham said.
Several Key Club members also created handmade cards to be packed with the meals to add some extra joy along with the meals.
