What is the difference between mail-in & absentee ballots?

NCCSD voters now have a new and convenient option for casting their ballots in this spring’s school district elections, budget vote, and referenda – early vote by mail. Early voting by mail works much in the same way that absentee voting traditionally has. The main change in the New York State legislation is that the vote-by-mail option is now available to everyone.

The NCCSD will continue to automatically send absentee ballots to people the Albany County Board of Elections designates as having a permanent disability or are in the military. However, everyone else can vote by mail now, too.

When will I get my mail-in ballot?

All mail-in ballots will be sent beginning April 30. Ballots can be returned by postage-paid envelope. They can also be placed in the secure drop box located at 91 Fiddlers Lane (District Office). The deadline to request a mail-in ballot online is Monday, May 12 at 4 p.m. Any requests after this time must be made in person at the North Colonie School District Central Office at 91 Fiddlers Lane. If you are qualified for early mail voting and issued an early mail ballot, the ballot itself must be received by the school district clerk by 5 p.m. on the day of the election (Tuesday, May 20, 2025) in order to be canvassed.
