PAC Meeting To Discuss School Reopening

Dear Families,

I hope you are all enjoying the summer break, even if the weather is not cooperating. I know there is much in the news regarding the pandemic, and I wanted to share some information with you.

As we are all aware, progress with the pandemic is fluid, and we are hearing more about infection rates and vaccination rates every day. As of the time I write this letter, New York State has not yet issued guidance for schools for the fall.

I continue to consult with the Albany County Department of Health, and did so this week, to receive more localized information and guidance with regard to September’s reopening of schools. I also attended a full-day meeting with the superintendents of the region and a large part of our discussion was school reopening. These discussions will be ongoing and will be instrumental in informing protocols for the return to school. There is much to be decided by New York State school districts and plans and options are being considered as we await official guidance.

In anticipation of such guidance, I am scheduling a Superintendent’s PAC meeting for Thursday, August 5 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss school reopening plans, including the much-anticipated opening of Shaker Middle School. We will send out the YouTube link in a subsequent communication, but we wanted to reserve the date on your calendars now.

As we did last year, we will work together to promote the health, safety, and well-being of all in our community. We look forward to sharing more updated information with you on August 5. In the meantime, please enjoy the summer days ahead, hopefully, with a little less rain.

Sincerely,

D. Joseph Corr
Superintendent of Schools
