Our Thanks to Local Law Enforcement: Partnering and coordinating to keep false school threat disruptions minimized

You have likely heard about the numerous false threat incidents, called “swatting,” that occurred March 30 at several school districts in the region and across the state. Although North Colonie was not directly involved, and did not receive any threats, we took what was being reported Thursday morning very seriously as we do with all cases of possible threats to student and staff safety. Our School Resource Officer was immediately made aware of the situation by Colonie Police and was closely monitoring the situation to ensure that there were no active threats in our district.

Since there was no threat in North Colonie, we did not issue a statement. We recognize now that a lack of communication from the district might have caused additional anxiety and we certainly apologize. We share your concern for your children’s safety while at school and take it very seriously.

We want to assure you that North Colonie CSD has a well-established relationship with our area law enforcement. We are continually updating our training to ensure that our schools are safe and that we respond appropriately. We want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our top priority.
