Recognitions:

Each month the Board recognizes those students whose contributions or achievements are outstanding, employees who go beyond the call of duty, and community members whose generosity is greatly appreciated. This month, we are pleased to recognize:

  • Faculty and Staff
    •  Kevin Smith, SHS Technology, for his leadership of the Shaker High School Engineering students, who won all but one award at the NYS Engineers Week High School Bridge Building Competition.
    • Christine Connor,  SHS German, commended by the American Association of Teachers of German for the performance of her students in the 2022/23 AATG National Exam.
    • Nine Southgate faculty members for their outstanding work and dedication to Southgate’s Friendship Week.
  • Students
    • Shaker High School students in Mr. Smith’s engineering classes who won several awards and broke multiple records from previous years at the  NYS Engineers Week  High School Bridge Building Competition.
    • Shaker High Schools students studying German participated in the 2022/23 National German Exam, 21 students earned medals in this prestigious competition,  six  of those students are eligible for  the AATG NGE scholarship.
    • Five Shaker Middle School students whose team won the Regional Science Bowl Competition earlier this month and will be competing in the National Science Bowl Competition in Washington, DC.
    • Seven Shaker High School students whose artwork was selected to be part of the Regional High School Juried Exhibit at the Albany Center Gallery
    • Shaker High School students collectively earned 49 total awards in Visual Art and Writing in the 2023 Alliance for Young Artists and Writers East Region-at-Large Scholastics Wards. 
    • Winter sports teams who have qualified for New York State Scholar Athlete Team Award.
