“Chain Reaction of Kindness” Topples Over at Latham Ridge

Did you know the 100th Day of School on Feb. 16 was also the 1,000th Day of School for Latham Ridge 5th graders?students check out the pallets of cereal boxes donated

In celebration of both the 1,000th Day in elementary school and the 100th day of the 2022-2023 school year, the school created a “Chain Reaction of Kindness.”

A school wide cereal donation drive was held with a goal to collect 1,000 boxes of cereal. The final total was 1,154 boxes of cereal! 250 boxes went to the North Colonie Backpack Program and the rest to the Regional Food Bank.

But before the boxes were donated, students and teachers lined the hallways to watch them topple over like dominoes!

They had a representative from the food bank make the beginning announcement, Principal Thiell did the countdown, and Stacey Angell from the backpack program was the one who tipped the first box to start the chain reaction.

5th grade teachers – Gabriella Giacone, Jessica Dineen, Michele Sano – organized the project and the entire Latham Ridge community across all grade levels worked together to collect the boxes of cereal.

And if that wasn’t enough, there was also a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Extravaganza, full of 100 / 1,000th day themed challenges.

A 1,000-plus congratulations to all at Latham Ridge Elementary!
