Mikaila Russell, Olivia Gardner, Madison Fowler, Gia Valenti, Caroline Hunt, Evelyn Tumbusch, Hadley Coughlin, Everly Gregory and Madison Reichert all helped create a rain barrel system for the Blue Creek school garden, which also earned them their Bronze Award, the highest honor for Junior Girl Scouts. The sun came out just in time for the 23rd annual Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor! This annual event allows for fifth grade LEP students from across the district to get hands on experience, travelling to the Hudson Shores Park to use nets, minnow pots, and water-testing gear. The group aims to catch and release many of the Hudson’s 200-plus species of fish throughout the day, while also tracking the river’s tides and currents and examined water chemistry and quality. Great job on another successful year, fifth graders!

Tuesday night, district students and families visited Central Office to view their artwork in the Superintendent's Art Gallery. Superintendent Kathleen Skeals was on hand to greet the artists in grades K-12 who had art chosen for the gallery which has been up since the beginning of the school year. The pieces were selected from last school year and will remain on display through the end of October. Congratulations to all!

Leaves are falling, making it the perfect time to learn about trees! On Friday morning, Blue Creek first and second graders discovered the differences between maple, oak, and evergreen trees. Farm to School Facilitator Ms. Cost led the lesson alongside High School Environmental Science teacher Mr. Rodewald and his eleventh and twelfth graders. Together, they explored the Blue Creek grounds, identifying trees in real time! Elementary students practiced telling the maples apart, while the high schoolers worked to name each specific species.

As Safety/Security Monitors in the North Colonie Central School District, Chris Bober and Dewayne Crawford have quickly become familiar names and faces throughout the district. Mr. Bober, who is stationed primarily at Shaker Middle School, has worked for North Colonie since December 2024. Mr. Crawford, who is stationed at Shaker High School, was hired this past summer. During their tenure with the district so far, the duo has enjoyed becoming familiar with their schools, students, and community. Though they are stationed at different schools, they are in constant communication with each other. They are also in agreement on one very important thing - they love the work and supporting the district in any way they can.

“At the end of the day, we're a resource for the district,” added Mr. Bober. “If anybody ever has any question or anything … reach out to us. We’re here to help everybody, not just at the high school and middle school.”
