Visions magazine is back! The spring 2025 publication of the magazine is now available online at SHSVisions.com. A limited number of print copies are also available at Shaker High School.
Visions was launched at SHS in the 1980s and has been in production ever since. The print version of the magazine took a hiatus in 2020, moving to an exclusively online version for collaboration via Zoom. For the spring 2025 magazine, student editors chose to bring back the print version. With 11 student editors and over 70 student writers and artists, the spring 2025 edition has been a stunning success.
Visions is a collaboration between the magazine staff and the SHS Writing Center. The two work together over the course of the school year to promote writing events and send out writing challenges to SHS classes, such as a “Two Sentence Horror Story” challenge in October. This helps to generate and curate the content for the magazine. SHS classes also work with advisors and editors on a layout workshop, where students learn how to create the magazine pages.
“These experiences spark collaboration among classes and support the creative community here at Shaker,” said the Visions Magazine Advisor Maureen Livingston.
In addition to being featured in the printed magazine, student work is also featured on the Visions website and social media accounts. The magazine itself is also well-known within the writing community. Each year the magazine showcases the work of the Christine Curley Creative Writing Award winning senior. In the past, Visions itself has been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines program.
