In anticipation of extreme heat this coming week and its impact on health and safety in schools, the North Colonie Central School District will have a half day for grades K-8 on Monday, June 23. This is in addition to the previously scheduled half days for Tuesday, June 24, Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26.
The current weather forecast shows “near record high temperatures” in the mid- to high-90s, and as high as 97 on Monday. Heat indices or the “real feel” temperature is expected to be well above 100 degrees on Monday.
While we recognize that it can be difficult for families to adjust schedules, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Dismissing early on these days will allow students to get home before the temperatures rise to their highest points. In temperatures like these, classrooms can become unsafe and the potential for heat-related illnesses including heat exhaustion and heat stroke increases.
