Transportation Dept. achieves 100 percent NYSDOT inspection rate
For the fourth consecutive year, the North Colonie Transportation Department mechanics have achieved a 100 percent New York State Department of Transportation inspection rate. For the 2017-18 school year, 150 inspections were completed and each one was perfect.
“It’s a remarkable achievement, because even with a headlight out, it’s not a perfect record,” said North Colonie Director of Transportation, John Myers.
Myers says it’s common to have a few notes related to maintenance or driver pre-trip reports. But North Colonie’s record is perfect.
“In other words, this is an A+ report card,” said Myers. “Absolutely no marks against us at all. It is a testament to our team in the shop and how seriously they take what they do.”
During inspections, everything is checked over, including brakes, steering, lights and suspensions. North Colonie has a fleet of 77 buses, which travel about 830,000 miles a year, transporting 5,700 children. In addition to the state inspections, buses are separately inspected all year along by North Colonie mechanics.
