The North Colonie School District has been informed that Mr. Joseph Montimurro, a former teacher aide at Shaker High School, was arrested by the Colonie Police Department on Monday, January 26, 2015, relating to alleged actions involving a North Colonie student. He has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of Forcible Touching, as well as a felony count of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the 1st degree.

On December 23, 2014, the District first became aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student. At the time of the alleged incidents, Mr. Montimurro was supervising the victim during a Shaker High School job site program. Mr. Montimurro was subsequently placed on paid administrative leave and the district began an internal investigation. In compliance with its legal obligations, the District contacted the Colonie Police Department and the NYS Education Department, and subsequently the matter was turned over to the Colonie Police. During the course of the investigation, Mr. Montimurro offered his resignation and it was accepted by the District and the Board of Education. The District continues to fully cooperate with the Colonie Police Department, who continue to investigate.
