Southgate students get lesson on Ramadan from guest speaker

| May 21, 2019

On May 9 and 10, Southgate parent Sabeen Durrani was a guest speaker during the sixth grade library classes. She gave a presentation on the religion Islam and the holiday Ramadan, which began May 5 and ends on June 4. Ms. Durrani organized learning stations, two of which were about the Arabic language where students practiced writing their first name in Arabic, and another station on the phases of the moon. The sixth graders, who recently completed a research project on World Religions in the classroom, enjoyed the activities planned. They will also hear about additional religions from a panel of speakers in an upcoming classroom lesson.
