Kindergarten Supply List

2019-20 Southgate Kindergarten Supply List

Dear Kindergarten Parents:

The first day of school is an exciting one for your child.  In order to make the transition from home to school more comfortable, the following suggestions are being offered.

Your child should ride to school on the bus.  Our bus drivers are very kind and have experience in handling fearful children.  Some will be tearful on the departure from home, but their fears will be comforted upon their arrival to our classroom.  Please do not accompany your child to school on the first day. From experience we have found it only increases a child’s angst.  A good night’s sleep will help your child enjoy the first day of school.

Each child is asked to bring a light, nutritious snack and drink every day, beginning the first day of school.

Your child will need:

  • a large sturdy book bag
  • one (1) marble composition notebook
  • four (4) large glue sticks
  • two (2) vinyl pocket folders
  • two (2) 24-pack crayon packs
  • one (1) box of gallon sized freezer bags with zipper top (last name A-M)
  • 1 set of inexpensive headphones in a zip-lock bag labeled with child’s name and teacher
  • 1 extra set of clothes (pants, shirt, socks, underwear) labeled and in a zip lock bag
  • 1 large container of baby wipes (last name N-Z)

All clothing and school supplies should be labeled with your child’s name.

The following are always welcomed and appreciated:

  • Glue sticks
  • Tissues
  • Dry erase markers

We realize that school supplies can be expensive, so please feel free to use items you may already have at home.

Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the Southgate cafeteria. Kindergartners will meet their teacher, visit their classroom and take a bus ride through the neighborhood. Please complete the “Kindergarten Orientation Form” when it comes in the mail, and return it to Southgate by Friday, August 30, 2019.

We are looking forward to a challenging and fun year ahead.

Sincerely,

Kindergarten Teachers & Principal Dedrick
