Congratulations to 13 Shaker High School Advanced Art students who had their artwork accepted into the prestigious Annual Regional Juried High School Art Exhibition, sponsored by the Capital Area Arts Supervisors and The Esther Massry Gallery at The College of St. Rose. This year, 21 school districts submitted 425 pieces and 104 pieces were selected overall. Shaker High School had the most artworks accepted by the jurors over all other area schools this year!
Congratulations to the following students:
Malerie Muratori, Jessica Warren, Lark Parmalee, Claire Young, Chris Goes, Austin Wyles, Ashley Duda, Stephen Jean-Pierre, Chantel Mochon, Maya Lewis, Jason Cotugno, Marissa Rogers, and Kyle Donnelly.
Shaker High School art teachers:
Mr. Hanley, Ms. Smith, Ms. Lue, Mr. Doolittle, Mr. Aubin, Ms. Chornyak, Ms. Paris, and Mr. Reilly.
The panel of jurors consisted of art educators and artists, Jeanne Flanagan, Paul Mauren and Kris Corso Tolmie, who reviewed and selected the work for the show. The judges were impressed by the large number of very strong art works in a range of media produced by area high school students in their art classes.
In selecting student artwork for the annual Regional Exhibit, mastery of technical skill was a factor, as was students’ ability to go beyond both technical competence and the apparent classroom assignments to present original or unique visual solutions that reveal something of the artist.
A reception will be held at The Esther Massry Gallery at The College of St. Rose on February 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with an awards ceremony in the Picotte Recital Hall at 7:00 p.m. The exhibit will be open to the public through February 25.
