Back in March, the Shaker High School Science Bowl team placed first in the National Science Bowl Regional Qualifiers at GE’s Research Center in Niskayuna. More than 140 students from 29 schools across the Capital Region participated in the competition.

The Regional Qualifiers is the culmination of many months of preparation. Students were faced with a multitude of challenging questions, covering a wide range of topics including math, chemistry, and physics, astronomy, earth sciences and computer science.

The team was set to travel to Washington D.C. for the finals but, it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“This same team of students competed last year and came in fourth place,” Coach Amber Cost said. “The team worked incredibly hard this past year and it paid off.”

Congratulations to Andrew Huang, Edward Lo, Rohan Bagchi, Varun Mondaiyka, John Yin, Coach Keith Weiss and Coach Cost!
