SHS German students win dozens of awards after national exam
In December 2018, 152 German students from Shaker High School grades 10-12 participated in the 2019 National German Exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). These German students competed against 25,000 students nationwide and achieved remarkable results in this prestigious competition. The students scored 25 Gold medals, 25 Silver and 19 Bronze this year.
In addition, two of the gold medalists, Emma White and Zhaoxin Ma, both juniors at Shaker High School, were selected as designated recipients of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) Study Trip German Award.
Emma and Zhaoxin are presently enrolled in German 4 with Frau Connor. They demonstrated high achievement in the study of German on the AATG national test and were nominated for this prestigious prize by the National Committee of the AATG. Emma White received a full scholarship for an all-expense-paid summer trip which includes round‐trip air transportation to Germany from New York, a homestay in a host family, and excursions to places of cultural and historical significance. Zhaoxin Ma received a partial scholarship and will also enjoy a three-week-trip to Germany this summer. Only a very limited number of students from the United States were selected for this award.
Congratulations to all our students for their accomplishments!
