The Shaker Unified Basketball Team completed its season May 30 at Skidmore College, by winning the division championship game.
The Unified Basketball Team runs during the months of April and May. The goal is to give students with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to play competitively on a school team. The team consists of both students with disabilities and without, grades 9-12. There were six practices, followed by six games. In addition, a semifinal game and final game as Skidmore College is played.
Special Olympics Project UNIFY brings youth with and without intellectual disabilities together through education and sports related initiatives. The goal is to provide them with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to create and sustain school communities that promote acceptance, respect, and human dignity for all students.
Congratulations to all Shaker team members, Coach Stephen Doak, and Coach Julie Torre!
