Shaker High School teacher arrested

| October 5, 2016

Shaker High School teacher Daniel Weaver was arrested Wednesday evening, October 5 by the Colonie Police Department on the charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

The arrest resulted from information provided to district officials two weeks ago, which included allegations of inappropriate communications by Mr. Weaver with current and former students. The district immediately reported this information to the Colonie Police Department and also notified the State Education Department, as required by law. At that time, Mr. Weaver was removed from his duties at Shaker High School and was not allowed on district property while Colonie Police conducted their investigation.

The safety and well-being of students remains the highest priority for the district. Because police say additional charges in the future are possible, district officials encourage anyone who may have information relative to this case or believe they were victimized to contact Colonie Police at 518-783-2754. For students who are struggling or need help processing this news, school psychologists and counselors will be available. In addition, Capital Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will be at Shaker High School to support North Colonie staff and faculty. Staff and faculty can also contact Capital EAP directly if they want to talk to someone confidentially at 518-465-3813 .
