Attention Shaker High School 2019 graduates, parents, guardians and guests:

On Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., Shaker High School will hold its Sixty First Commencement Ceremony honoring the graduates of the Class of 2019 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. This ceremony brings our school and community together to recognize this important milestone. Tickets are not required to attend this event and we look forward to seeing you all there. Please reference the information below to plan for the 2019 Shaker High School Commencement Rehearsal and Graduation Ceremony.

The Times Union Center

The TUC is located at 51 S. Pearl St. in Albany, NY. We are very excited to hold our 1st SHS Commencement at this location for our 2019 graduates. For info regarding the Times Union Center, please click here. We encourage all of you to arrive early to the ceremony to allow for traffic and parking. The TUC requires all bags be checked by security when entering graduation. To save time entering, please consider not bringing a bag.

The TUC parking garage is accessible via Market Street and is available for guest use free of charge. It is located directly behind the TUC and provides direct access to the arena. For further parking info, please click here. Street parking is also available around the TUC. Please note that Pearl Street in front of the arena will be closed off at the conclusion of the ceremony for approximately one hour. Cars parked in this area may not be able to move during this time.

Behavioral Expectations

We wish to remind our students and guests of the importance of this event and the honor that this commencement holds for each graduate and their families.  As such, we expect all of our students to act in a manner that not only reflects the importance of this ceremony but also respects the accomplishments of their classmates. Students whose behavior interferes with or disrupts the graduation or reflects negatively on themselves, school, or family, will not have their diploma presented to them on the day of graduation and they will risk removal from the ceremony. Parents and guardians, please take the opportunity to discuss with your child appropriate behavioral expectations as they are representing both their school and your family. Beach balls, balloons, and noise-makers are not allowed in the arena. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in removal from the ceremony.

Seating will be in the lower level of the arena. Seating is not reserved and will be based on a first-come first-served basis. Guests can enter the Times Union Center as early as 8:00 A.M. to choose their seats. The graduates and the musical performers will be seated on the floor of the arena. Please note that Section 118 of the arena will be reserved for the North Colonie Board of Education, Shaker High School Faculty, and North Colonie staff members attending the ceremony. For a TUC seating map, please click here.

Disabled Seating

Disabled guest seating is available at the top of the lower arena level. There should be plenty of available seating for our disabled guests and this seating is on a first-come first-served basis. The TUC parking garage contains disabled parking spots and is free of charge.
