Covid Testing Plan
(Revised Sept. 22, 2021)
The purpose of this plan is to outline the plan and procedures for COVID testing at North Colonie Central School District (CSD). COVID testing is meant to be used as a screening tool for asymptomatic individuals. This testing is not intended to be used for diagnostic purposes for symptomatic individuals.
Students are encouraged to be tested, especially those who are unable to get the vaccine. The District will provide a testing site for students who wish to participate in the screening process. This will be open to all asymptomatic students, regardless of vaccination status, provided the District receives parental/guardian permission.
NOTE: Individuals being tested should be instructed NOT to eat or drink anything (with the exception of water), including chewing gum, mints or lozenges, tobacco or smokeless tobacco products, within 30 minutes of their testing time. Mouthwash and toothpaste should NOT be used within an hour.
All unvaccinated staff must provide documentation of a negative COVID test weekly. The District has made the decision to provide a testing site and availability for staff to be tested. If a staff member chooses not to be tested at the District’s site, they are required to be tested elsewhere and provide documentation of the test to the Human Resources Department weekly. Failure to do so will result In the employee being placed on unpaid leave.
Staff members who are in the process of being vaccinated or are within fourteen (14) days of their final dose, are deemed “unvaccinated” per this order and will be required to be tested weekly until they are fourteen (14) days post final dose.
Although it is not required, vaccinated staff are encouraged to participate in the voluntary testing for COVID to help identify asymptomatic breakthrough cases.
In order to efficiently test the population at North Colonie, the District has partnered with Quadrant Biosciences to perform pool testing. The testing will consist of a mouth swab, which will be tested in a pool with up to twelve samples. The samples will be shipped to Quadrant, where they will be processed. If the results of the pool test are positive, the individual samples will be tested to determine the exact individuals in the pool who are positive.
- Results for staff will be available only to members of the Human Resources Department.
- Student test results will be available to the building principal and their designee, along with members of the COVID team.
- Additionally, all individuals will receive their own individual test results (either pool negative or pool positive/individual negative or positive).
- Anyone who tests positive in the pool will need to be excluded from school until the results of the individual tests are received.
Every Saturday, starting October 9, 2021
Shaker High School: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Every Thursday, starting September 30, 2021:

All individuals (staff and students) who will be tested through the Quadrant process must pre-register on the Quadrant app.
Covid Testing Taskforce
The District has formed a COVID Testing Taskforce, consisting of members of our support staff and nursing staff. Each member of the taskforce will be trained on the variety of duties necessary to run the testing session.
- Greeting of individuals
- Distributing test kits
- Training/demonstration of saliva collection and activation
- Scanning of test tubes
- Data entry
- General oversight of session
- Answering questions and concerns
- Spreading out of the pool samples to ensure transportation is not in one sample
Testing Results Protocols
Organizational manager or designee reviews results and then notifies the COVID coordinator of positive pool results. The individual members of the pool will be excluded from school/work until the individual test results from the pool are received. Based on the individual positive(s) from the pool, the District will begin the contact tracing procedures.
Personal Protective Equipment
All members of the COVID Testing Taskforce will be issued the appropriate PPE, including but not limited to:
- Masks (N95, if needed)
- Face Shields (if needed)
In addition, the areas where testing will occur will be cleaned and sanitized before and after each testing session. Hand Sanitizer and wipes will be available.
Reporting to NYS
As the District has partnered with Quadrant Biosciences, they will be responsible for uploading the test result information into the ECLARS system and reporting to the Department of Health for the positive test result(s). Individuals who are deemed a direct contact of the positive case will follow normal district reporting procedures to the Albany County Department of Health.
