Ed DoppEd Dopp, North Colonie’s Director of Physical Education and Athletics has been selected by the New York State Athletic Administrators Association as Chapter 2’s Athletic Administrator recipient for 2015. According to Scott Sugar, the NYSAAA Awards Chairperson, this award is given to an athletic administrator who has shown evidence of devotion and idealism to athletes through the NYSAAA and has demonstrated his or her influence and power in the promotion of athletics in a positive manner.

”Ed Dopp is a consummate professional who fully understands the very important role athletics play in the overall education of our students,” said Superintendent Joseph Corr. “Under his leadership, our program has grown and developed in many ways. Our student athletes not only learn the athletic skills necessary for success on the field, but also learn the values, character, and work ethic necessary for success in all facets of life.”

Ed Dopp began working for the North Colonie school district in 1981 as a student teacher. Since then, he has taught physical education and coached football, wrestling, indoor track, and baseball. For 21 years Dopp was the varsity baseball coach at Shaker, leading his teams to multiple Suburban Council titles and to a Section 2 championship in 2003, when he was named “Coach of the Year”. Dopp has also served as the district’s Faculty Athletic Manager, summer school principal, interim elementary school principal and Director of Continuing Education.

In just the past six years, 34 Shaker High School teams have been named Section 2 champions or finalists, and seven teams and four individuals crowned either state/federation or state regional champions. In addition to the Suburban Council titles, Shaker teams have also been involved in hundreds of community service projects. In the academic realm, more than 95 percent of the Shaker athletic teams have qualified for scholar athlete status. For the 2013-14 school year Shaker High School was named a NYSPHSAA “School of Distinction”, with all twenty-seven programs qualifying.

Ed Dopp will receive the NYSAAA award at the Roy O’Neill Conference Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 19, at The Saratoga Hilton in Saratoga Springs, NY. Congratulations to him!
