On Friday, May 27, North Colonie 5th graders were treated to a special performance by professional dancers as part of the Classical Kids program through SPAC.

While at the assembly, students witnessed three types of dance: ballet, jazz, and break dance. During the performance, some students were invited to join the dancers on stage and learn some of the basics.

The students were then invited to attend a free performance of the New York City Ballet for Balanchine Short Stories on July 15. The performance will include three one-act ballets: La Sonnambula, Prodigal Son and Firebird.

All 5th graders who attend the performance in July will receive a special classical season lawn pass that allows the student (and an accompanying adult) free lawn admission to every orchestra and ballet event at SPAC until they graduate from high school.

The Classical Kids program is sponsored by Union College and currently serves approximately 8,000 children in grades four through seven at 35 schools in and around the Capital Region.
