Dear North Colonie Community,
As you are aware, it was another tough week with numerous COVID cases in our district. Again, I want to remind families that a majority of our COVID positive cases have not been due to school spread, but due to spread in the community. As we mentioned earlier this week, we are monitoring our staffing ratios and will update families on Monday, Dec. 14 as to schooling plans for Dec. 18-23. Thank you all for your continued understanding and cooperation as we do our best to get to a place where students can come back and learn in our buildings.
Meals Available During Remote Learning
I want to remind families that meal pick-up and delivery will be available for students in need during the remote learning period. The schedule for next week is as follows:
- Monday, Dec. 14 & Wednesday, Dec. 16: Meals can be picked up behind Blue Creek Elementary School or behind Shaker High School from 8-8:45 a.m.
Anyone who needs meals delivered must email Food Service Director Lisa Ostrowski at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- For the past five years, SJHS Math Teacher Mike Moffre and his family have been providing Thanksgiving meals for local families in need as part of the initiative they started called “HeartsGiving.” This year, they provided meals for 137 families, with 46 of those being in the North Colonie community. Thank you, Moffre family! Read more here
- SHS Class of 2019 alumni Nathan Wang is making headlines for a legislative proposal he wrote to expand artificial intelligence education in K-12 schools. Watch the WRGB story | Read the Times Union story
- 7 SJHS students have been accepted into the NYS Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Middle School All-State Honor Band! The students will be in a virtual concert that will debut on March 6, 2021. Congratulations to Joseph Gecewicz, Dominic Greco, Eleanor Helm, Sriman Iyer, Eleanor Keough, Kevin Lu & Helen Powell!
I hope you all have a safe and relaxing weekend. Thank you again for your support. We could not do this without you. Remember, we are in this together.
