Last spring, Latham Ridge Principal Thiell participated in a Twitter chat on Common Core implementation. The chat was hosted by the Learning First Alliance (LFA), which promotes dialogue around teaching and learning. LFA partners with many prominent educational organizations, including NAESP (National Association of Elementary Principals). “Principal Magazine” is NAESP’s flagship publication and is published five times every school year.
A few days after the chat, LFA contacted Thiell and asked if he would consider being part of a podcast. The contact person had been in the chat and cited his chat responses as her reason for reaching out. After the podcast was recorded, LFA reached out again with the invitation to write for Principal Magazine.
“I doubt the article would have happened without three things,” said Thiell. “One, social media; two, Superintendent Corr and Assistant Superintendent Skeals’ relentless drive to improve teaching and learning by promoting reflective practice among our administrative team, and three, my being a member of the Capital District Writing Project, which has supported my growth as a teacher-writer over the last ten years.”
“In a very short period of time, Aaron Thiell has established himself as a solid, thoughtful, reflective instructional leader of Latham Ridge,” said Superintendent Joseph Corr. “His writing reflects his strong, instructional leadership. He continues to empower his staff to grow and nurture their best practices, so as to provide an excellent education for our students.”
