Important Information on Bus Safety and Schedules
The North Colonie Central School District is so excited to welcome students back to school! As we kick off the new school year, we have some helpful tips for parents, as well as students who ride the bus in the morning:
- Pick up and drop off times are approximate, and are subject to change. It will take several days for the schedule to become consistent. Please be patient with the district and our drivers for the first few days of school.
- For pick up in the morning, please have students ready and waiting outside at the bus stop before the bus arrives. Five minutes before the bus’s scheduled time will give students plenty of leeway. Students should board the bus quickly after being instructed to by a bus driver, and take a seat. While on the bus, students should allow others to sit with them. Making new friends and making sure everyone has a seat is important!
- The morning schedule should become consistent after a few days, but the afternoon elementary school bus runs may take longer because the schools and the bus drivers want to make sure the right students are getting on the right buses and going to the right places. On the first two days, our elementary drivers will be taking attendance of all students, which will cause buses to run late. Please be patient when picking your students up from the bus stop in the afternoon as we work to keep all our students safe.
Parents and community members who are driving when buses are out in the morning or afternoon are reminded that all traffic must stop when a bus’s red lights are flashing. This applies even on school grounds. Passing a stopped school bus is not only illegal, it puts our students at great risk. Please use designated parent drop off/pick up areas on school campuses.
Thank you for all your help keeping our students safe. We’re looking forward to a great year!
