Important Back-to-School Notes for Students and Families

| August 29, 2018

We want to remind students and parents, that due to ongoing construction, Shaker Junior High School is making the following recommendations to assist students with bringing classroom supplies to school over the first few days of school in early September.  It is anticipated that the building will not be accessible to students or parents prior to the start of the school year.  Therefore, our traditional “Locker Day” will not be held this year.

Our annual program entitled:  Getting and Staying Organized for School Success is scheduled for Tuesday, September 25, 2018 beginning at 6:30 p.m.  All 7th grade students and their parents are invited to attend, if interested.  The program will include a panel discussion sharing organizational tips and suggestions. Students and parents will be provided time to organize and practice using their lockers.

PLEASE NOTE: During the first few days of school, 7th grade students will participate in orientation activities, locker practice and building tours that will assist them with locating classrooms and using their lockers.  An extended homeroom period will provide time for this orientation process.  Faculty, guidance counselors and administrators will be on hand assisting with the transition of our seventh graders.  Students will have the opportunity to begin to practice using their lockers and setting up their lockers throughout the first few weeks of the school year under the supervision of their hall teachers and guidance counselor.

8th grade new entrants (students who did not attend Shaker Junior High School last year) will also be provided with assistance/orientation from 8th grade peer helpers supervised by the guidance staff.

In order to assist all seventh and eighth grade students with bringing in their supplies over the first few days of school, the following school supply schedule is recommended:

  • Thursday, Sept. 6th (first day of school):  Students can bring in the recommended supplies for their English and American History/Social Studies course along with a folder (for bringing home beginning of the year paperwork) on the first day of school.
  • Friday, Sept. 7th (second day of school):  Students can bring in their Math and Science school supplies.
  • Monday, Sept. 10th (third day of school):  Students can bring in supplies for remainder of 1st quarter classes based on their schedule.
