Shaker High School recognized its summer graduates on Tuesday, Aug. 30 with a special commencement ceremony in the high school’s media center.
Three of the school’s four summer graduates accepted their diplomas as family, friends, teachers, school and district administrators helped celebrate the students’ accomplishments.
The ceremony featured remarks from Shaker High School Principal Richard Murphy and Superintendent of Schools Joseph Corr.
“Today we celebrate your grit and your perseverance,” Murphy said. “It doesn’t matter that you traveled a different route to arrive at this milestone, what matters most is that you overcame significant challenges to reach your goals.”
After completing their coursework requirements during the summer, the new graduates joined the 483 members of the Class of 2016 who crossed the stage in June.
“These students could have easily given up, instead they made the most of this opportunity through persistence, character and courage, along with the support of parents, family and friends,” said Corr. “Everybody here today feels a special pride for you. We are proud of your journey and proud that you have been a part of the Shaker family.”
Congratulations Austin Rifenburgh, Daniel Arango, Schuyler Lake and Karina Pierre.
