Congratulations Class of 2017
The Class of 2017 graduated June 24 at the University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena.
Of the 436 graduates, 98 percent graduated with a Regents Diploma and 64 percent graduated with an Advanced Regents Diploma. New this year, 35 students were recognized for outstanding service to the Shaker and wider community. As recognition, these students wore Bona Fide Community Service Honor Cords during the commencement ceremony to signify they had completed a minimum of 200 volunteer hours during the past four years of their high school careers.
Meanwhile, 90 graduates (including one English as a New Language student) received the New York State Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas. The state Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language. This credential identifies students as proficient in several languages and cultures as they move forward with higher education and future careers.
