Message from the Principal
Dear Boght Families,
February is here and promises to be an exciting month. We begin the month with our annual Science Fair. Join us at 6:30 on February 5th (snow date Feb. 7th) as students present their research findings. Mrs. And Mr. Moustakas, and a very distinguished panel of judges, deserve our gratitude for continuing this excellent learning opportunity for our students. We welcome back Ms. Abby Winters-Bona starting on February 5th as she begins teaching our Health Curriculum to students at Boght Hills. We have the last of our BIG3 parties the week of Valentine’s Day. Mid-Winter Break is here the week of February 18th. We end the month with our PTA’s Quiz Night on February 28th (Please note that this is not a drop-off event. All children must be accompanied by an adult family member at all times).
I want to take a moment to recognize our talented 6th graders, our exceptional music educators, and families for all the effort that went into producing and performing Lion King Kids. I was blown away by the show.
I want to thank our PTA for their continued efforts over the past month. Your dedication and presence at Boght Hills continues to make a big difference in our students’ experience. Thank you! I also want to recognize Dr. Melissa Veino for all of her dedicated work planning and organizing December’s Craft Fair – in last month’s Colt News I mistakenly omitted Dr. Veino when thanking the organizers. The Craft Fair presented new and engaging projects and would not have been possible without Dr. Veino’s many hours of preparation.
Boght Hills is participating in the Read for Ronald McDonald House Program again this year! The program allows students to use their reading skills to raise money in support of the Ronald McDonald House of Albany, which provides housing and supportive services to families of children who are sick and receiving treatment in our local area hospitals. Reading for the program will begin on February 1st. Please encourage your student to be one of our reading warriors and participate in this valuable program! Information packets went home with students following our kick-off assembly on January 30th. The links below provide more information about the Read for Ronald McDonald House Program and our RMH fundraising webpage. For additional information or questions, please contact me or Nancy Damato at ndamato@rmhcofalbany.org.

The last of the BIG3 classroom parties will be here soon. Please remember that all food items must be store bought, nut-free, and contain a label. Please do not send candy in as a treat to share with classmates. Consider an alternative such as a sticker or pencil. In addition, if an adult wishes to attend the class party they must RSVP and receive confirmation from the classroom teacher. This year, as discussed at Open House, we are strictly enforcing our 1-1-1 policy for the BIG3. Each Boght Hills student can have one adult attend one of the three class parties (Fall, Winter, Valentine’s). If an adult already attended the Fall or Winter Party, then an adult from the student’s family cannot attend the Valentine’s Day Party.
Our students go outside for recess nearly every day. Your help to ensure they are properly dressed for the cold and wet conditions is necessary. Students must have boots, snow pants, gloves, and hat when they go out into the snow.
Sincerely,
Health Office News

Valentine’s Day Party

2019 “Help With All Your Heart” Campaign
A benefit for the Ronald McDonald House.
From February 9th-12th, students can receive a heart for their donation of $1 or $5 and use the heart as a Valentine to send to a friend or family member.
Faculty and staff will be participating too!
All proceeds will be presented to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region on the weekend of May 14th during the 7th Annual Capital Cup for Kids Hockey Tournament.
The Capital Cup for Kids, an annual adult hockey tournament, raised over $77,000 last year and an additional $2,500 worth of wish list items for the Ronald McDonald House.
