The district’s North Colonie Kids Care features are inspired to do good work for many different reasons, but for fourth grade Blue Creek student, Abby Taylor, her reason was close to home: her mom.
When Abby was five years old, her mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This year, as she was about to turn nine, Abby went to her parents and told them that instead of gifts, she wanted to raise money for something important. In turn, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society became the organization of choice for Abby. She was able to raise more than $300.
“It’s a bad disease,” she said. “I really want to help people who have bad days. And I just want to help find a cure.”
Many of Abby’s family members and friends donated to her cause, and during October, her family participated in the Monster Scramble, a 5K/10K race that benefits MS.
Abby will be recognized for her efforts during the Nov. 21 Board of Education meeting.
