School meals will continue to be available to all students, including those attending school in-person and those learning remotely. For information about how meal information will be communicated, visit the Communication/Family and Community Engagement section of our reopening plan.

Meals On-site

For students onsite, meals will be provided while maintaining appropriate social distancing between students. Students do not need to wear face coverings when seated and eating so long as they are appropriately socially distanced.

The district will ensure social distancing between individuals while eating. Meals may be served in alternate areas (e.g., classrooms) or in staggered meal periods to ensure social distancing and proper cleaning and disinfection between students.

In order to protect the safety of all students, all of our classrooms will be nut free during the period of the school year that students are required to have lunch in their classrooms.

The sharing of food and beverages (e.g., buffet style meals, snacks) is prohibited, unless individuals are members of the same household. Adequate space will be reserved for students, faculty, and staff to observe social distancing while eating meals.

North Colonie Food Services has multiple scenarios by which students can obtain breakfast and/or lunch meals.

Classroom Delivery with Classroom Dining

Delivery team will report to classrooms and distribute meals (pre-ordered) from designated locations. Students will pick-up “grab and go” and consume the meal at clean/sanitized assigned areas. At breakfast, meals may be picked-up as students enter the classroom to save time in having them come back up after they are seated. (Food Service Designee will collect rosters each day)

  • Grade K-3 teacher/designee checks name off on the roster at the end of the service line.
  • Grade 4 and up teacher or designee checks name off of roster at the end of the service line.

Cafeteria Style Service with Classroom Dining

Specified locations throughout the school building will be set up to address social distancing. Students will be required to visit the service points in small groups maintaining social distancing and make meal selections for “grab and go “meals or pick-up pre-ordered meals. Meals brought to the assigned classroom and desk for consumption. Meals accounting by roster or electronic POS system.

Allergy Concerns

Parents of students with food allergies who are participating in the school meal programs must work with their child’s school nurse, food service director and cafeteria kitchen supervisor.

Meals Off-site/Remote

North Colonie Central School District understands the importance nutrition plays in the ability to learn. Therefore, we will be offering a meal pick-up option for our remote learning students. Meals will be available for pick-up on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Monday and Wednesday boxes will contain 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches and the Friday box will contain 1 breakfast and 1 lunch. (Pick-up location TBD)
