Veterans Mural

“…Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our
heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain…”

- President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1954

Overview

The North Colonie Central School District is proud of its rich tradition of honoring our veterans. Truly humbled by their many sacrifices and service
to the ideals of character, commitment and courage, we have honored our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Merchant Marines at the annual Veterans Day Celebration. The November 2, 2011 groundbreaking dedicated the area as a more lasting tribute, a tribute worthy of the unwavering dedication of our brave service men and women. We are moving forward with the progress on the Memorial, but our timeline has been modified. Please continue to check this webpage for further updates.

About the Memorial

In the fall of 2010, Shaker High School art teacher Paul B. Aubin came up with a design plan for the North Colonie Veterans Memorial. Mr. Aubin
views the project as “an opportunity to express some of my gratitude for the dedicated soldier.” He and selected students will create a series of panels depicting the history of the United States and the contributions
of the brave men and women who have selflessly served our nation. When assembled, these panels will become a sculptural timeline, allowing
members of the North Colonie community a means to reflect and honor our veterans, past, present, and future. The memorial will be unveiled on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.
