Transportation Guidelines
We offer transportation to all our kindergarten
students a mid-day. However, students who live in the "no transport"
zones around some of our schools are not eligible for transportation
to school if they are in AM kindergarten or
from school if they are in PM kindergarten.
AM Kindergarten (Morning)
Eligible AM kindergarten students ride to school
from their central neighborhood bus stop along with all other
elementary students. At mid-day, we try to drop off as close to your
home as we can. Usually this means your driveway, but sometimes it
must be the nearest corner because of limited access with a big bus
where you live.
PM Kindergarten (Afternoon)
PM kindergarten students will be picked up as
close to your home as possible, which usually means your driveway.
In some cases, though, it must be the nearest corner because of
access restrictions with a big bus. At the end of the day, eligible
students will be delivered to your central neighborhood bus stop.
Students must be out waiting for the bus
five (5) minutes before the pickup time. (If you're not standing at
the bus stop when the bus arrives, you've missed the bus. Never let
a child run to a waiting bus.)
The bus driver must see a responsible adult to
meet your student at the bus stop before we will let them off the bus. If you approve your child going to/with an older sibling or to
another adult, we must have this in writing. If we do not know the
person meeting the bus, and/or do not have prior approval to do so,
we will not release your child to them.
Transportation to and/or From Other Than Home
Address (Daycare Providers)
If you child is going to or from daycare, a
Kindergarten Request Form to and/or From Other Than Home Address
must be completed. You can download the form and submit here, or
fill it out by hand. These forms can be found at your local
elementary schools by February 15. 2012. Forms are due in the
transportation office no later than May 15, 2013.
Daycare or other alternate locations must be
within the boundaries of our school district and be for all five (5)
days of the week (no split busing). Locations outside of your local
elementary zone may requite a very long bus ride and/or bus
transfers at another school. Request received after May 15, 2013 may
be denied if we cannot fit them to existing bus routes. While we
cannot recommend specific daycare providers, we will be happy to
speak with you regarding daycare option you may be considering,
especially in regards to what it means for your child's
transportation.
Kindergarten students' bus information will be
mailed to homes the week of August 19, 2013. Parents who have
questions regarding transportation should contact the transportation
department at 785-9486.
